Net-Zero also in the industry? We show how!
hosted by BMK, Klima- und Energiefonds, Land OÖ
powered by Klima- und Energiefonds
Martin Pischler, RHI Magnesita

Heavy industries such as steel, cement and chemicals are responsible for about a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, these sectors encounter high investment costs for process plants with long payback periods and plant lifetimes of more than 20 years. “Freeing up” emissions reductions at the end of their next cleanup cycles could avoid nearly 60 Gt of CO2 globally and help put industrial sectors on a net-zero emissions path. MI members, led by Austria and Australia, are developing the Net-Zero Industries Mission to address this challenge.
A short film about MI and Net-Zero Industries will be followed by a discussion with RHI Magnesita on the challenges and opportunities of decarbonizing industry.

11:50 - 12:10
"Rehearsing the energy transition - (how) is that possible?" - New research designs with technology, market and people
hosted by BMK, Klima- und Energiefonds, Land OÖ
Michael Hübner, Bundesministerium für Klimaschutz
Hans Schnitzer, StadtLABOR
Dhara Meyer, Energie Tirol

The digitization of the energy system opens up the possibility of reorganizing the interaction between the players. How this can succeed must first be tested systemically. Several levels are involved in this process: Technology, market and people as users and designers. Systemic testing requires coordination, strategy and laboratory design. In a real laboratory, practice and science can work together to produce effective innovations.

After an impulse statement by Michael Hübner (BMK), video and discussion contributions of the current Reallabor pilot initiatives will follow.

The idea of the “100% Renewable Energy Reallabs” pursues the goal of developing building blocks of the energy transition with concrete solutions for integrated energy systems in Austrian regions.
